We brought a new piece of equipment in our practice that can measure the level of antioxidants you have in your bloodstream.
Why is this something to care about? And what is an antioxidant anyways? Think about your body as a constant construction zone: there are always things that need to be broken down, disposed of, repaired and fixed. In the body, a byproduct of this “construction” is oxidation. Oxidation, in this case, means that an oxygen molecule has lost an electron forming a free oxygen radical. These free oxygen radicals can cause oxidative stress when left to their own devices. This causes damage to your body’s “blueprint,” or DNA, and is linked to a myriad of health problems.
The equipment is called a “Biophotonic Scanner” and it measures the carotenoids aka antioxidants in your bloodstream which studies show correlates to risk for eye diseases like macular degeneration and glaucoma.
At Westfarms Eye Associates we are committed to improving and optimizing your health and the best approach is to be proactive. Your eyes are an extension of your brain tissue and are intricately connected to your overall well being. Various studies have discussed the importance of abundant antioxidant levels for healthy aging. Using the latest technology, our practices makes testing this VERY IMPORTANT biomarker affordable to everyone.
